Joee Mejias
Joee Mejias is a multidisciplinary artist from Antipolo, Philippines, working at the intersection of projection design, music production, and performance. Since 2007, she has produced and performed under various monikers, including the collaborative project Joee & I. Her practice utilizes acoustic and electronic instruments, field recordings, and voice to create site-specific performances rooted in improvisation and collaboration. This interest in cross-medium connectedness—spanning dance, sound therapy, food and theater—extends to her work as an organizer of DIY shows in Manila, such as the musical improvisation series Open Play Assembly. Her professional experience includes composing for films such as Medusae and Bulakna and performing live film scores for the International Silent Film Festival, alongside a projection design career for theater and live events that began in 2009. Joee has toured extensively throughout the Philippines, Southeast Asia, Taiwan, and Canada. Her festival credits include Klex, Choppa, and Nusasonic in Southeast Asia, as well as Audible Edge, Make It Up Club, and Liquid Architecture in Australia. She recently completed a tour in Europe with the Swiss band Secretariat. Additionally, she has worked as an organizer for the WSK Festival and is the co-founder of HERESY, a platform dedicated to a more gender-inclusive new media arts community and increased visibility of women and queer artists working with creative technology.
